Other interesting things about Doug:
Doug started playing the Highland Bagpipes at the age of six years old and by age eleven he was the youngest piper to have won the Gaelic Mod solo competition. At the age of 17 he joined the R.A.F. and he took a period of time out of piping for several years.
Doug had the honour of piping the Squadron colours in to the Officers mess in Malta on its 65th Anniversary, and played within an R.A.F. Pipe Band for the Queen on her Silver Jubilee. In 1998 quite by chance Doug heard about Greater Manchester Fire Service had a Pipe band and went along, which made him decide to get back into piping seriously. After that, Doug eventually joined West Midlands Police Pipe Band.
